President Abraham Lincoln signed the Emancipation Proclamation on January 1, 1863, freeing over a half million slaves.  However, news did not reach Logan County Kentucky until August 8th.   The residents of Logan County Kentucky celebrate the historic milestone every year.

The 8th of August has deep historical significance for African Americans in Kentucky.  For the last 36 years, Freedom is celebrated.

When you join us to celebrate, let there be no doubt that freedom and emancipation is what we are preserving and celebrating.  Reflect and remember the enormous fight to gain freedom.
